CRITIQUE FOR DOGS

SEWSSC CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW

9TH OCTOBER 2005

After a long absence from judging my observations were a little disappointing with regard to substance and variation in type.  We must pay attention to the two T.T. (type and temperament), construction and presentation all of which are part and parcel of showing our dogs.  I also noted the colour in some dogs was a little darker than I would like.  We must do our level best to keep to our standard.  However, after being a little negative, I would like to say that I found some very nice animals during the course of my judging.

MINOR PUPPY DOG (3)

1st KNOWLES – MENSTONIA MARCEL – A lovely puppy with plenty of substance and style. Balanced head with well defined stop and dark pigmentation.  Short coupled with deep brisket.  Moved with drive from strong and correctly angulated hindquarters.  Good firm feet.  Best Puppy Dog.

2nd  RENOUF & MONTAGUES’S – RANWOLF DELLING.  Not quite the substance as winner but at just 6 months old behaved very well and moved soundly.  Nice head with soft expression.  Straight front, balanced body.  Correct tail set is a must especially if carrying a full tail as this puppy did.  A little light in coat at the moment but this could darken with age.

3rd TESTER’S – AVILT NEFERUSOBEK

PUPPY DOG (5)

1ST KNOWLES – MENSTONIA MARCEL (winner Minor Puppy)

2nd WORTH’S SHANDWICK KRISTOFFER AT SARABANDE.  Lovely outline and in great condition, this 10 month old puppy covered the ground with ease.  Good layback of shoulder clean in throat straight front a little longer cast than one, but moved well from strong hindquarters.

3RD BUTCHER & NORRINGTON’S – AINDREA ACHILLES

JUNIOR DOG (7)

1ST REES’ – TYPICA GOLDIGGER.  A super young dog this one, with bags of class. Lovely head with dark pigmentation.  Good reach of neck and clean in throat.  Correct layback of shoulder and deep brisket.  Balanced body and strong over loin.  Correct angulations on hindquarters.  Moved with style and covered the ground with ease.  Went on to win a further two classes thus gaining his Junior Warrant.  Well done.

2nd CAMPBELL’S – HILLPARK GOLD MASCOT.  16 month old dog in super condition .Pleasing head with soft expression.  Good length of neck, straight front, balanced body and drove well from behind.  Good feet.

3rd LEARY & HALL’S – HILLPARK HALLMARK HASLEMONT.

MAIDEN DOG (3)

1ST WORTH’S – SHANDWICK KRISTOFFER AT SARABANDE.

2ND AASUK’S – SPIRIT AV VETTIN Neat head, good length of neck. Longer cast than winner.  With a little ringcraft training will be much easier to handles as he was a bit excitable today.

Good layback of shoulder, deep brisket, balanced body and strong over loin. Correct angulation on hindquarters and good feet. Moved soundly. Res CC.

3rd WORTH’S – SHANDWICK JACK FROST AT SARABANDE.

LIMIT DOG (9)

1ST DUNCAN’S – REDFRITH CHIANTI. Lovely dog in good condition but would prefer a little less bulk on his furnishings as this can detract from sound movement. Balanced head with good pigmentation. Good layback of shoulder straight front, deep chest, strong over loin. Moved with drive.

2nd TROTH’S – TAIMERES TURNABOUT FOR COLLINSMOORE Another lovely dog with neat head, super front, good feet with deep brisket and strong hindquarters. Good feet. In super condition. Moved well.

OPEN DOG (5)

1ST TULLY & CURTIS’ – SH CH HIGHCLARE BOSON’S MATE Super head and soft expresion. Clean in neck and good layback of shoulder, deep brisket and strong over loin. Good turn of stifle and well let down hocks allowing him to move effortlessly and cover the ground with ease. Presentation second to none and handle with style. This performance won him the CC and to my delight went on to be BIS by decision of the referee Mr W Hatton.

2nd PRICE’S – DRAMAGEM CWMRAEG TRYOR Another lovely dog. Proportionate head, good pigmentation. Strong neck and shoulders and mature balanced body. Drove well from behind with good angulation. Moved freely.

Correct length of neck, good front, deep chest, short coupled and strong over loin. Moved soundly from well let down hocks. Deserved to lead this super class of veterans.

2nd GILL’S – BRENROS DROP DEAD GORGEOUS Looking good today in full bloom and moved with enthusiasm. Lovely head with soft expression and good pigmentation. Strong neck and shoulders, straight front. Good depth of brisket, short coupled. Good turn of stifle, drove well from behind.

3rd THOMAS’ SH CH FEARNLEY DILLON

SPECIAL BEGINNERS DOG (6)

2nd JACKSON’S MENSTONIA MIAMI VICE  Nice head wit kind eye. Good front, deep brisket and balanced body. Tight feet. Moved freely.

SPECIAL WORKING DOG (1)

1ST BARKLEY’S – SH CH PARKMIST MR FRISK How time flies, it only feels like a couple of years ago this lovely chap gained his title and now still works and could hold his own in any class. Like his kennel mate a true Welshman with all the attributes for a days hard work. Strong in every department, short coupled with well muscled second thigh and that lovely rounded buttock. A pleasure to go over.
