Comment From A Trainee

I booked in for the Taster Day for gundog training not really knowing what to expect.  Millie is my first Welsh Springer Spaniel, my first pedigree to be honest.  But she is willing to learn so even though I was a bit apprehensive I thought I’d give it a try.

We had a lovely day, the weather forecast was not good but the worst of it held off and I believe neither Millie nor I disgraced ourselves.  The whole event was very well organized, we were put into groups for each aspect of the training, and they were geared to all levels, all the trainers were very encouraging, very approachable and good humoured (probably needed when spending hours in the mud and rain).

What helped a nervous novice was even the trainer’s dogs showed independence and spirit and didn’t always do as they were told!  Everybody there obviously loved the breed. The dogs were at different ages and levels of training.   I came away with the enthusiasm to work with my dog on gun training I also picked up some good tips but what I got most out it was that it was fun.

We had a lovely lunch and a bonus was there was no trek across a field to a portaloo,  there was a warm loo inside! Thank you Steve who opened his home for the day.

At the end there was a very tired dog and owner, I certainly felt more confident to carry on with the training. So thank you SEWSSC and I would definitely do it again!

Now where did I put that whistle
